Corporate Counsel were asked to provide senior interim management support for a firm of solicitors in Kent that was growing fast but needed help with managing that growth and securing their future. As the senior representative of Corporate Counsel Paul Vousden spent four months with the client acting as a roving resource around the firm, providing input and guidance and, most importantly, taking ownership of key projects that were not being progressed because of pressure of work.
Key achievements were:
1. Project managing the installation of a new case management system to support solicitors, paralegals and secretaries in managing a wide range of conveyancing,family,wills and probate, and litigation cases. The project took around 8 weeks and involved all the staff and presentations from a shortlist of 3 systems. The result was that we secured a system that would support the firm immediately and help it grow in the future.
2. Departmental structures - as part of an overall management process we devised departmental budgets and instigated business plans so each department worked to a clear objective - the result was improved performance and better information and control for senior management.
3. Corporate governance - during my period with the firm I began the process of setting up a formal Board structure and implementing clear business planning - as a result the senior partner was able to work in a more co-ordinated and strategic way. The firm has grown nearly 100% over a period of 12 months and our input has helped significantly with this growth.

Corporate Counsel worked closely with a beauty salon in central London to help the owners achieve their objectives. The project ran for 3 months and during that time Corporate Counsel explored a number of options for the owners to achieve their objective of securing an exit from the day to day running of the business and to maximise the return on their investment of 11 years building up the salon. After several options were reviewed a buyer was found for the business who was able to acquire the brand name, premises and staff and ensure the continued success of the salon. The two owners were able to retire with a handsome profit and the satisfaction of knowing that their hard work in building a strong reputation would continue with a strong and successful brand.
