Why are you on the planet?
Have you ever really sat down and thought seriously about what you want to do with your life - how you want your career to fit into your life plan - which aspect of your life is most important to you?
Let me tell you a story. In the mid 90s I went to a seminar and had one of those light bulb moments. The speaker was an American lady and she was talking about being ‘positive’!
Her speech was essentially a string of American ‘one-liners’ of the type that make most Brits cringe. But one of them stood out for me, particularly when she followed it with a challenge. “The purpose of life is a life of purpose,” she paused and then added, “so what’s yours?”
And that was it - I didn’t have a clue what my life’s purpose was. It took me about 3 months to define a written and very personal purpose and it has remained with me ever since, very personal and private to me only. Then 11 years later I joined LinkedIn in 2006 and decided to share it in my profile in the ‘About’ section.
